SONIC YOUTH - *New Album* Rather Ripped OUT TODAY

Being a die-hard SY fan I am always psyched when they put out a new album. I don't even OWN this yet but I've listened to it on their site (sonicyouth.com) and it is awesome. I think this is a very marketable album which means that they will more than likely expand their fan base. Not that it matters. Some people might even go, "Wow, are these guys new?" Hardly.

They're going to be in Tulsa on JUNE 21 at the Cain's and I will be there. Can't wait!.

One Last Delicate Arch Post...

After weeks of him-hawing around, Patagoina has finally made up it's mind about the Delicate Arch ascent - they want Potter to apologize for the climb. Patagonia stated that they felt the climb was inappropriate and asked for an apology. Potter, in this post on The Piton, apologizes for the shortsightedness of his actions and the subsequent negative press. He defends himself against the Outside article which claims that Potter caused rope scars on the arch. He apologizes for the Park Service's decision to BAN climbing across-the-board on all named arches and BAN slacklining in the park. In his statement, Potter does not apologize for the climb itself, he apologizes for everything else BUT the climb. It's obvious he does not regret climbing Delicate Arch. He only regrets the aftermath.

Regardless of Potter's statement, interviews, or future publicity (hopefully this is the last we'll hear of this) I would give Potter the benefit of the doubt that he has learned his lesson. I think he'll think a little harder before he acts next time. In fact, I wouldn't doubt if in a year he is the posterchild for the Access Fund, much like Kurt Smith was after his episode with illegal bolting on El Cap. But that remains to be seen...

Delicate Arch - Update

Here's an update to the Dean Potter's climb of the Delicate Arch. Dean Potter was interviewed on NPR. Go check it out.

And there's an article on Outside Online which you should read.

In the Outside Online article Potter was quoted as saying, "I'm so in tune with rocks and nature. On any rock around the world, if I hurt the rock, I feel like I'm hurting myself."

Potter admits to having rehearsed the route several times, to having other people on top of the Arch with him to take photos and video. So how much of a bond with nature was this or was it more publicity gone array?

This may not be over. If the Park Service proves that Potter indeed did damage to the Arch they will likely revisit their decision and possibly issue a fine.
